City/County Planning Board

Purpose:

The City/County Planning Board is authorized under MCA Title 76 Chapter 1.

The purpose of the Planning Board is to encourage local units of government to improve the health, safety, convenience, and welfare of their citizens and to plan for the future development of their communities to the end that highway systems be carefully planned; that new community centers grow only with adequate highway, utility, health, educational, and recreational facilities; that the needs of agriculture, industry, and business be recognized in future growth; that residential areas provide healthy surroundings for family life; and that the growth of the community be commensurate with and promotive of the efficient and economical use of public funds. In accomplishing this objective, the planning board shall serve in an advisory capacity to the established governing bodies and officials in Richland County.

About the Planning Board:

The City/County Planning Board functions as a joint, consolidated planning board that serves as an advisory board to the governing bodies of Richland County, City of Sidney, and the Town of Fairview. The Board is comprised of three boards; the full Board, the Sidney Jurisdictional Area, and the Fairview Jurisdictional Area.

Meetings and Hearings:

The Planning Board meeting are held on the First and Third Tuesday of each month. Meetings dates are subject to change depending on board agenda action items. The Planning Board will hold at least one Board meeting in the months of January, April, July and October.

Public hearings held by the Planning Board are to collect public input on a major subdivision application and the growth policy according to State statutes and according to the local regulations. The public hearing notices are published at least 15 days prior to the hearing date and are published in the local newspaper of general circulation.

Minutes and Agendas

The meeting agenda is available at least four days before the scheduled Board meeting. The past minutes are posted on the County's website Agenda Center, after Board approval. Public hearing legal notices are published in the local newspaper of general circulation, Sidney Herald. If you wish to obtain a paper copy please contact the County Planner Office, there is a fee for requested paper copy(s).
